American Water Works Company, Inc. is the largest and most geographically diverse, publicly traded water and wastewater utility company in the United States, as measured by both operating revenues and population served. The Company provides drinking water, wastewater and other related services to approximately 14 million people in 24 states. The majority of the Company's business is conducted through regulated utilities that provide water and wastewater services. The Company also operates other businesses that provide water and wastewater services to the U.S. government on 18 military installations, as well as to municipalities. The Company's strategy spans three core areas of execution: operations, capital, and regulatory. Operational execution involves the day-to-day management of water and wastewater systems that provide safe, clean, reliable and affordable service. Capital execution supports reliability and affordability through infrastructure investment and system acquisitions. Regulatory execution focuses on efforts to work with regulators and policymakers to support required investment levels and allow appropriate returns on those investments.
