Ameriprise Financial Inc. is a publicly traded, independent financial services holding company providing comprehensive financial advisory and financial services products and solutions to clients, whether on a fee-only, commission-based, or fee-based basis. The Company operates through three reportable segments: (1) Advice and Wealth Management, which provides financial advisory and wealth management services, investment planning and estate planning services to individual clients primarily through its advisor-based channel, including investment advice, portfolio management, financial planning, and related products and services; (2) Asset Management, which manages and administers investment products and services for clients globally, including mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, separate accounts, and other investment products; and (3) Retirement and Protection Solutions, which provides insurance and retirement products and services including variable annuities, fixed annuities and fixed index annuities, life insurance, long-term care insurance, and individual retirement accounts. The Company also generates revenues from investment income on securities held in its investment portfolio and from corporate activities.
