Company Overview
Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. is a global, all-domain defense partner operating three primary business segments: Ingalls Shipbuilding, Newport News Shipbuilding, and Mission Technologies. The Ingalls segment designs and constructs non-nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, including amphibious assault ships (LHA and LPD classes), surface combatants (Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyers), and national security cutters. Newport News designs and constructs nuclear-powered aircraft carriers (CVN class) and submarines (Virginia and Columbia class), and provides refueling, complex overhaul, and inactivation services for nuclear-powered vessels. The Mission Technologies segment provides integrated solutions across four groups: All-Domain Operations (C5ISR systems and data fusion), Warfare Systems (cybersecurity, AI/ML, and electronic warfare), Global Security (live/virtual/constructive training and fleet modernization), and Unmanned Systems (unmanned underwater vehicles and surface vessels serving defense, marine research, and commercial customers). The company conducts approximately 81% of business with the U.S. Government, primarily the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and U.S. Coast Guard. With operations spanning more than 140 years in naval shipbuilding and employing over 44,000 people domestically and internationally, HII serves as the sole builder of amphibious assault ships and one of two builders of surface combatants for the U.S. Navy.
